[Engine] No power

Hi all.
I've got a w the 1.9d non turbo and was driving down the motorway and slowly started looking power. It then started splattering and kangarooing when I pressed the accelerator. Luckily I made it to a junction and managed to park up. Since then I have checked the timing and changed the fuel filter but it's still the same. The engine starts and ticks over fine but as soon as I try to rev it I get a rattle coming from the head and loads of smoke. Any ideas.

Not sure if the 1.9 has an in tank pump - someone will educate us on this one?

If it has start there - otherwise sound like a timing issue does yours have number 4 injector with the needle lift sensor on it, if so it should have a crank sensor too - all points for problems.

EGR valve stuck open also?

Loads of WHITE smoke is air getting in to the fuel lines, and it will rattle like a bag of spanners as well as power loss. Main cause of this is that lovely Purflux FC446 fuel filter letting in air. If you havent changed the fuel filter inside it that can break down and give you all you describe. When this happened to mine I took the whole assembly off, washed it all in soapy water, BLEW water backwards and forwards through the little valve on the lid to clear out paper fibre contamination and dried the whole lot out quickly on a radiator. Re mounted the whole lot back on its little alloy seat, new filter fitted, topped up with fuel before bumping the lid back down and no problems. Blingos are prone to trouble if you dont change that fuel filter regular.
