Hill start assist.

Did anyone else know this was a feature, or have I got a special van which I accidentally discovered has this? Had the van since the beginning of September, and just found it this morning.

It is standard with automatic gearbox. I don’t know whether the feature has been available or optional with manual. It is present/absent configurable with Diagbox, so maybe it can be activated even on those initially without.

Mine is a manual. I stumbled across it, then checked the handbook which is so full of information... It has a slim section of a page on it. I just wondered if it's meant to be standard or as an optional extra. It didn't mention it in the advert.

If you stop and the gradient is above a certain level, when you take your foot off the brake, you get a set period of time before the hill start assist brake lets go. I can't remember how long the gap is - 5 seconds maybe.
Annoying this is you don't know if it's deployed or not. Shallow hills don't trigger it.

I frequently exit certain garage, which has a slow lift door at steep incline. I normally drive to the control gate to trigger the door, and while waiting the door I intentionally roll a bit backwards to align the car better. Gear is still in drive. I just now realized the hill hold never kicks in in this case. Fine by me, just left wondering why it is not even trying in this case.

Mine seems to hold about 2 seconds, and sometimes it's noticeable by the brake pedal being firmer underfoot. The exit I noticed it on isn't that steep, but obviously enough. Usually I'm still a handbrake and clutch guy.
